Foresight in clinical proteomics: current status, ethical considerations, and future perspectives

چکیده
With the advent of robust and high-throughput mass spectrometric technologies bioinformatics tools to analyze large data sets, proteomics has penetrated broadly into basic translational life sciences research. More than 95% FDA-approved drugs currently target proteins, most diagnostic tests are protein-based. The introduction clinic, for instance guide patient stratification treatment, is already ongoing. Importantly, ethical challenges come with this success, which must also be adequately addressed by medical communities. Consortium members H2020 European Union-funded initiative: Proteomics Infrastructure Consortium-providing access (EPIC-XS) met at Core Technologies Life Sciences (CTLS) conference discuss emerging role implementation in clinic. discussion, involving leaders field, focused on current status, related challenges, future efforts required make a more mainstream technology clinical Here we report that discussion provide an expert update concerning feasibility proteomics, implications generating analyzing large-scale data, recommendations ensure both effective real-world applications.

Down Syndrome: Current Status, Challenges and Future Perspectives
Down syndrome (DS) is a birth defect with huge medical and social costs, caused by trisomy of whole or part of chromosome 21. It is the most prevalent genetic disease worldwide and the common genetic cause of intellectual disabilities appearing in about 1 in 400-1500 newborns. Although the syndrome had been described thousands of years before, it was named after John Langdon Down who described ...
متن کاملHuman 3-D tissue models in radiation biology: current status and future perspectives
In this review, we discuss the use of a variety of 3-D models (particularly 3-D skin, lung, breast and endothelial) in radiobiological research and highlight the differences in responses compared to 2-D culturing conditions (monolayers). We review the characteristics of existing 3-D models and aim to point out the substantial advantages 3-D cultures provide for modern radiobiology. In particula...
متن کاملClinical applications of PET/MRI: current status and future perspectives.
Fully integrated positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners have been available for a few years. Since then, the number of scanner installations and published studies have been growing. While feasibility of integrated PET/MRI has been demonstrated for many clinical and preclinical imaging applications, now those applications where PET/MRI provides a clear benef...

متن کاملPlant Secretomes: Current status and future perspectives
Plant secreted proteins have biological functions which are important in the formation of cell walls, cellular communication, and defense against pathogens. We analyzed 1704 secreted proteins from a total of 22513 plant proteins, all of which were manually curated and annotated in the UniProt database. Of the secreted plant proteins analyzed, 55% and 13% are curated from Arabidopsis thaliana an...
